US CAN STARTUP (UCS), a cross-border incubator dedicated to supporting technology founders expanding into North America, is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Qi to its Board of Advisors, where he will also serve as General Counsel.

Douglas Qi brings over two decades of combined experience in law, entrepreneurship, and product development across the U.S. and China. A graduate of Yale Law School (JD) and Peking University (BS, Chemistry with a minor in Law), Douglas has built a distinguished career at the intersection of legal practice, academia, and startup innovation.

Extensive Legal and Academic Expertise

Douglas began his career with Baker & McKenzie in Palo Alto, advising multinational clients on U.S. and international tax matters, before moving into legal practice with TransAsia Lawyers in Beijing, focusing on M&A, FDI, and technology/media regulatory issues. He also served as an Associate Professor of Law at the China University of Political Science and Law, specializing in American and comparative law, with a focus on property, corporate, and commercial law.

Pioneering LegalTech and Product Development

As Co-Founder & CEO of Chinalaw.com, Douglas built one of China’s first legal information platforms, later acquired by Thomson to become Westlaw China. He subsequently held senior leadership roles at Thomson Reuters and Wolters Kluwer, where he directed product development and strategy for legal and regulatory information systems.

Entrepreneurship and Leadership

Beyond his legal and product development career, Douglas has founded multiple ventures, including weixueji.com, a Khan Academy–style platform for China’s K12 market, and 51camp.cn, a leading platform for summer camps, educational travel, and experiential learning programs.

“We are honored to welcome Douglas to UCS’s Board of Advisors,” said Shun Ma, Founding Partner & CEO of US CAN STARTUP. “His rare combination of global legal expertise, product innovation experience, and entrepreneurial leadership will be invaluable as we guide founders navigating the complexities of cross-border business, financing, and compliance.”
